Junkanoo has been an important part of Bahamian Culture and History since the beginning.
Admire the captivating murals and vibrant artwork throughout I Dream Of Sugar and SRL Sugar Rush Lounge Nassau which pay homage to Junkanoo, infusing our store with a unique blend of tradition, color, and excitement.
Junkanoo is a key element of expression of the Bahamian Cultural Art Form. Its origin dates back from the 17th century where it was exhibited as a masquerade.
The name derived from a West African John Canoe Festival. It started out as a slave’s ritual celebration with painted flour paste faces and rags adorned costumes, which has now grown to wired masks and assorted arts and crafts materials. These are accentuated in a robust kaleidoscope of colors and enhanced entertainment utilizing traditional musical instruments for an authentic sound. The festival has maintained its annual celebration dates of Boxing Day & New Years Day and continues to be a vibrant attraction within the Bahamas.
Within our store, you’ll encounter carefully crafted Junkanoo Murals. These murals blend the exuberant and beautiful Bahamian design style with the candy-coated branding of I Dream Of Sugar.
